Barry S. Kraushaar, MD

Dr. Barry Kraushaar is the founding and managing partner at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, working alongside Jason Fond, MD, Richard Popowitz MD and Jeffrey Lee, PA.  He started practice in 1996 and has performed a large number of the joint replacements done at Nyack Hospital every year.  He draws knowledge and experience from training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx - and it's affiliated hospitals, Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC, The Hospital for Joint Diseases in NYC and Arlington Hospital/Georgetown University.  Before starting Advanced Orthopedics in 1999 he worked with a practice that performed hundreds of joint replacements yearly.

Dr. Kraushaar helped develop the Nyack Hospital Joint Replacement center and for five years has served as its Co-Director.  He has performed many of the most advanced procedures at our hospital, including Computer-planned Knee Replacement, Hip Resurfacing, Hip Arthroscopy, Mini- and Small-incision Joint Replacement, and Partial Knee Replacement. Dr. Kraushaar performs partial, total and reverse shoulder replacements.

Dr. Kraushaar uses the most modern materials available and actively brings new technology to our hospital. As Co-Director of the NH-Total Joint Center he participates in the planning and streamlining of care that makes our hospital a great place to have a joint replacement.  He helps reach out to the community by giving presentations to seniors and health groups.  He brings his Sports Medicine expertise to every patient, making Dr. Kraushaar widely respected among the rehabilitation departments and physical/occupational therapists in the county who know he is always helping patients get the best results possible.

Background and Education
Dr. Barry Kraushaar grew up in Rockland County. He attended Colgate University and went on to Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital - a subdivision of Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Kraushaar had sub-specialty training in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at Arlington Hospital / Georgetown University. He has published numerous articles on Sports Medicine and routinely lectures on related topics. He wrote a chapter in a book called "Running Medicine". He is listed in the Castle Connolly Guide to the Best Doctors in New York.

Sports Medicine

Dr. Kraushaar has worked with team doctors for the New York Jets, the New York Rangers, the Washington Redskins, the Washington Wizards, and professional tennis players. He was team doctor for George Mason University in 1996. He has been the team doctor for St. Joseph's Regional High School since 1996 and is also team physician and an assistant professor at Dominican College.

Professional Career

Dr. Kraushaar began practice in 1996. He founded Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in 1999. Dr. Kraushaar treats patients of all ages and specializes in joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery and sports injuries to the shoulder, elbow and knee.

Research and Publications
Dr. Kraushaar has published articles in several prestigious journals of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
